P O R T R A I T U R E
Portraiture is my favourite technique in photography. Its all about the people. I truly enjoy capturing the personality of a person or persons from a still image. The subject allows you to see what they want you to see, happiness, sadness, laughter or crying, lonely or welcoming, anger or at peace. A simple portrait image of a person has the capability to portray more than just the likeness of a person, it is so much more than that. It tells a story. It tells us the culture of the person. The intimacy of the photograph allows you to dive in to that moment captured as though you was present at that time, connecting you with the subject as if you have known them and their journey since day one.
βThe eyes. They eyes 9 times out of 10 will tell you everything you need to know. They tell you the unseen journey and the beauty or dispare the image holds. The power that eye contact has in every day life is portrayed and enhanced in photos, having the subject stare into the lens of the camera gives off the feeling you are there looking at the person, eye contact helps you judge someones character and state of mind during that moment. Not to say photos where no eye contact is possible aren't as good, I simply mean eye contact in a photo is just one way of telling a story without saying any words.
focus on what photograph you want to take, focus on what you want it to say
